Before Katrina Gulfport, MS had two active poker rooms — the Gulfport Grand and the locally owned Copa next door. The storm took both of them out of the water.
They are still without a poker room, but a new casino is opening at the site of the old Gulfport Grand Hotel — Island View Casino Resort. After Katrina, because of barge damage then and in previous hurricanes, casinos don’t have to be built on a barge anchored in the surf anymore, casinos on dry land across the street from the beach are acceptable.
The new casino appears to have bought the old player list from The Grand, I got a mailer with offers for free nights and free slot play. They have a website here.
I’m moving my Poker Road Trips blog to here. For a while I’ll be maintaining both sites.
